Reading another thread on oil change... if you're the type of person who sits in the Jiffy Lube/Walmart waiting room while your vehicle if having its oil changed, tires rotated, etc., you deserve to be screwed over. Short of taking your take the vehicle to the dealer, which is not always possible, stand nearby and watch as your vehicle is being worked on. When the workers know they are watched, they'll have less opportunity to mess up. Unless you actually see them remove such, ask to see the oil filter, air filter, brake pads, etc. In short, stay with your vehicle.

I'm sure this question has made its rounds before but is it really better to go to dealership? I drive a Toyota and always go to dealership - I know I'm paying more but I feel like they do multipoint inspections, etc... maybe it's just piece of mind knowing someone halfway knowledgable is working on my vehicle.

Negative, dealerships don't care anymore than the other places.

Dealerships atleast have certified techs working on the vehicle.

So it's better to have your work done by a certified oil changer at Jiffy Lube than by a certified mechanic at the dealer, one that also does a multi-point check? Got it.

You are correct if its possible. One thing I have noticed and heard of from a co-worker is when I get my vehicle back from a certain place in Monroe is that within a week I will have a flat tire. THREE times I have found nails in the side of my tires. I finally put two and two together and realized the correlation between finding them and remembering each time it was after a visit there. A co worker just had it happen to her. (they sell tires also - but I never buy tires from them).

Hell no. They are no better than your local shop. Probably worse because people have this false sense of security with the dealer and do not have to earn your business.

They don't. They get paid per car. Why would they waste time with an inspection?

The people who change oil don't know any more than other oil
Changers. Same goes for the master mechanics.

Oil change is probably ok at dealer, anything else find a reputable mechanic. Went to a local dealership for an oil change and after inspection received a $6000 full page list of needed repairs. Took to mechanic and list was reduced to 3 items for $700.

I personally know the people who own the facilities which work on my vehicles.

Their staff know this as well.

This helps.

OT-Entitlement continues to pay dividends.

I'll go to the dealer when my car is under the powertrain warranty. That way they have all of the records in their system and can't come up with some BS excuse that someone else screwed things up.

Let's be honest, the yuppies of the OT have never worked on a car. Even if they were shown the oil filter, they wouldn't know what to look for.

If it's a dealer you regularly do business with you should be fine. They aren't going to frick you over on an oil change when you buy a vehicle from them every couple years.

Doesn't hurt they come get my truck at the office then bring it back when they're finished

My best friend owns a shop and I know and have fished/drank with all his employees also. I only pay for parts and no labor.
