About to have a new fence built around the house and want to avoid a few common things I see. A lot of the wood privacy fences built around here look horrible after a year or two of weather. Are there better grades of wood that can be used or any other advice before building?

Use cedar and paint with opaque stain.

the only way to keep a fence looking good is to stain it every couple of years...there are a ton of different grades and shades of stain, so have a look at them and start to decide what you want to put on yours after it weathers enough to soak the stain up...

You can pressure wash a wood fence.

Get a sprayer and spray with diesel on both sides. The grass will grow back. Fence will look awesome for years. Just don't strike a match for a while

If standard privacy fence, use galvanized posts, or make sure you make a cone of cement at the base of wood posts

Only thing bad about using wood posts is that they'll warp pretty badly over time. Galvanized posts for sure.

If using wood post make sure you have 3 runners. Schedule 40 post are like $30 a pop!!

The three runners will usually limit the warping. Wood posts look better, but who GAF about what the inside of your fence looks like.

I'll be building a house soon and when I put my fence up, I'll be using galvanized posts with cedar planks. Also going to screw them in

Get some galvanized post at central fence out by the paper mill and get some #2 cedar pickets from Russell Moore. These two have much higher quality than Lowe's or home depot. When at Russell Moore get some sealer, but wait a month or two before you deal to let the wood weather a bit so it will soak in more sealer.
