Will vinegar cauterize a bleeding nose?

I have heard that snorting a vinegar/water mix or simply applying vinegar on a cue tip will cauterize blood vessels that grow close to the wall of the nose and stop frequent bleeding from hits to the nose. Is this true OT medical experts?

It's not for me as my nose rarely bleeds when I get popped. It is for my son. Every time he takes even a light jab his nose bleeds like a geyser.

Do you know what cauterize means?

I know exactly what it means. Vinegar is highly acidic and several other boxers have told me that it works to burn the vessels and stop bleeding in the nose.

Use nasal spray. It will restrict the blood vessels and help stop the bleeding.
Also start applying Aquafor with a q-tip to your nasal passages. Sounds like your nasal cavaties are extremely dry and the blood vessels are exposed (I have this problem)

Damn sensible advice. I hadn't thought of this. I will buy some for him today. I was also curious to see if anyone had tried or heard about the vinegar method. From what I have been told it is commonly practiced in every Mexican boxing gym.

Get him a Neti Pot and make him use it a couple times a week. Or at least get some saline nasal spray or some of this saline gel called Nose Better. I used it after my sinus surgery back in college. Only use something like Afrin to stop a bleed when it is happening. Overusing that will cause some long term effects that aren't good.

Old trick from my karate days. When he has a nosebleed, take a strip of paper towel, kleenex or toilet paper (not used) and roll it up a little. Stuff that between his teeth and upper lip. Works like magic.

This is correct. A buddy of mine is a trauma surgeon and told me they use Afrin all the time to stop minor scalp bleeding.
