By Thursday afternoon, the St. Tammany public school system had already registered 20 news students from other areas that were flooded. More are expected, particularly from Livingston, where officials estimate 97 percent of the structures flooded.

Likely more temporary moves than Katrina, IMO.

If they're looking to escape floods, St Tammany is not the place.

The roads in St. Tammany can't handle any more people.

I wonder how many people will decide to permanently relocate out of LA because of this.
You may having aging senior citizens with their adult children already living out of LA who are thinking they don't want their parents starting over again there. I'm sure this has prompted many people in those situations to seriously consider just relocating their parents(if they can) to live closer to them.

Yes, more people will move to St Tammany as a result of these floods. Temporary intent or not, St Tammany will definitely see an influx, no question. I don't think it will be as extreme as after Katrina simply because of the lack of rentals and new construction available, but yes, more people will come.

This. A lot of homes that were flooded saw less than 15"....which while devastating, is not a total loss.
I think things will start returning to normal in the impacted areas within 5-10 months.

Not just people but businesses which were located in those areas. Businesses can't afford interruptions so a number will be forced to move.

They don't need to. It sucks here with the high crime rate, shitty school system, lack of vegetation, and down right rude people.
St Tammany Parish is closed for business.

As a business owner I welcome them. As a homeowner I say where they hell are they going to fit.

That's the thing. Not only are there no houses here, there aren't cheap houses.
I guess if they want to move to Lacombe, or Slidell, that's cool. But that's going to fill up fast. It's already packed here.

True. I suspect that rent will climb within an hour of these flooded areas.
