Umm...2017 apparently.

Planned improvements include:

Widening U.S. 90 to six travel lanes.
Elevating the U.S. 90 travel lanes above Albertson Parkway to create a grade-separated intersection.
Constructing a new, wider BNSF railway overpass.
Reconstructing the north and southbound service roads adjacent to U.S. 90.
This is a $57.1 project that is scheduled for completion in mid-2017.

the tolls should go back on the Crescent City Connection and on the Huey and 310 bridges to pay for completion of I-49 from the elevated West Bank Expressway to Raceland...then improve the roadway from the Huey to I-10...

This can be done. You simply need to bypass the cities . Go around Patterson and Bayou Vista . Go around Lafayette to the east. Go around Desalminds (sp?) to the north

You still would have one of the biggest sticking points. Westwego wants nothing to do with extending the Westbank Expressway, and has fought against it.

Serious question. What money does Westwego have to stop it if money poured in for expansion? Place looks like it wouldn't have the clout to fight it off if it got serious.

That I'm not sure. I just remember reading articles saying that. I think that is why the Expressway ends in Marrero. The want to keep the small town feel(IIRC).

It will be built the same time they start construction on the I-12 to Bush Highway project which started in 1979

The LA DOTD and Corps of Engineers at their finest level of incompetence with this project too.

It's a factor in why Arkansas hasn't made recruiting inroads into Louisiana until recently.

I've taken I-49 between Shreveport and Texarkana a couple of times over the past months and its awesome. Smooth as silk and no cops! An American Autobahn! Many speed limit laws have been broken on that stretch of newly paved interstate.

What is in Bush that they need I-12 to run through it?

I like living out here, but they don't help themselves with being the butt of so many jokes in this area.

The I49 connector through Lafayette design project was awarded to Stantec, et. al last year. It will be an elevated expressway where 90 (evangeline throughway) is now. Or at least that was the what the preliminary phase called for.

It is critically needed to relieve traffic congestion coming in from Bogualousa/Franklinton/McComb which is currently directed through Covington to I-12 and causing massive back-ups on I-12's off-ramps heading to Mandeville/Covington and Abita Springs.

If they were serious about getting 49 built, then why have they spent the money putting more interchanges in the medians south of Lafayette for the last two years? Serious question - I drive through that area a lot and don't understand what that has to do with prepping the area for interstate expansion.

Public private partnership

The way we need to go. And why would you toll the CCC for something being built elsewhere?

Replacing 90 through the heart of Lafayette is a terrible idea. Keep the existing roadway and take 49 over to Breaux Bridge, head south over Lake Martin and reconnect with the existing 90 at Broussard. Boom. Semi loop created.
