but if you think that krewes like rex and comus will let someone who.moved to nola post katrina to be the reason theu change their ways, you are going to die dissapointed.

that's the whole thing though. as these people become a bigger and bigger % of nola's population, and as the old guard die off to be replaced by more progressive young people, how can they sustain the hatred?

I don't see why you have it out for the old organizations.

He hasn't said anything to make me think he's anti-Rex or anti-Proteus.

There is a big difference in preserving and keeping history and not allowing newcomers into the fold.....

why would i not talk about it?

it seems to be a much better thing for everyone to make it a black mark like being part of any other racist organization

That's absurd. I agree that private organizations can and should do what they want, but in 2013, it's completely unreasonable to think that people won't speak out against them if they are known to be racist.

i don't think it is necessarily hatred.

i'm not, and won't ever be a part of one of these krewes since i'm from out of town, but i can appreciate the great sense of history and tradition involved in membership.

Most fraternities at LSU don't let black people in. Are they considered racist too? It's not like they're the KKK. Give me a fricking break.

It's not like they're the KKK.

what is the difference in the ideas of the KKK today and those of comus?

both are based in a perceive superiority and are strongly related to racism

Exactly. If they don't like being called racist assclowns, then they should stop acting like racist assclowns.

Also ironic that he's accusing people of being anti-private organizations (freedom of association) simply because we're exercising our First Amendment right to disagree with their membership practices.

Well, it's not just about race with these organizations. Proteus, Comus and Momus would no more have Tom Benson or Ronnie Lamarque as a member than they would a black person.
