Have a pregnant wife who's due in 2 weeks. I cooked some deer sausage and got lectured how this can kill an unborn child. Is this true? I know lots of friends who hunt and know their family eats deer, hog, etc...

I'm pretty sure louisiana's native population would be zero if this was true.

That doesnt make any sense at all, as long as the meat is fully cooked. But you need to fully cook any sausage.

Only "wild game" she shouldn't be eating is high mercury content fish. And that's true whether it's from a store or you caught it yourself.

I believe it was already smoked. I just cooked it with some onions before I made an omelet. Needless to say I'm ready for the baby to get here.

There is no winning an argument with a pregnant woman...just politely apologize and promise not to try to kill her again in the future...

And then relax and enjoy your deer sausage...

Prions present in deer meat would probably be your only concern. You can't really destroy that protien by cooking it. That being said, it's super rare and I don't know of any cases of deer having prions (CDC) in LA. It seems like more of a northern thing.

Pure bullshite. Wild game is far healthier than any meat you can buy. What dumbass told you this? I would avoid fish from mercury contaminated water, but I can't think of any reason to avoid wild game.

Studies have found autism is directly caused by deer sausage, even when fully cooked.

I'll look for the link.

Also can be found in domestic cows. No safer. Domesticated meat may me worse as they are keep in close confines, disease is more easily spread.

She looks all this stuff up on the Internet. She doesn't eat it but claims its some airborne mess that spreads it.

Trust your wife and her internet skillz over smackover.

He's an MD trying to contaminate you and drum up sick people business to fuel his addiction for charitable donations/tax write offs.

Pigs too. I was just throwing out that fact. Expecting mothers can be super cautious, and they should, be to an extent.

The solution to this one is easy. If she's concerned about simply tell her to STFU and don't eat it.

There is a long list of things that pregnant woman aren't supposed to eat so they usually have a separate menu from the rest of the family while pregnant anyway.
