I can think of a lot of things to call a Lexus but tinny certainly isn't one of them. By and large their door close is similar to the bank vault feeling you got with the built to standard Mercedes era. Save for the bottom end cars Lexus interior materials are better than what you get for the same price in the Euro cars.

I can see discussing the design (de gustibus non disputandum est) but anyone that knows cars is not going to suggest the materials in the Lexus are sub-par, most will argue the exact opposite.

I don't know how we got into this, my wife said, "I don't want a Lexus." Maybe they're awesome, I didn't test drive one.

She works very hard and makes good money, she can buy a $50k car if she wants. This isn't her first, won't be her last.

What’s the best luxury car these days with the focus on low road noise, loose steering, mushy suspension, good acceleration, but not he tight German steering handling? Kind of like the old cadillacs/Lincolns back in the day? Lexus ES, Cadillac?

I would think because it's often better to lease a depreciating asset...

The f-pace actually isn't all that expensive as a base model. mid 30's if I remember right. But its small. Neighbor has one and I looked at it briefly while looking at all the SUV options out there for the wife.

You responded to my aside about the GX.

It was offered to the OP as an alternative, if his wife wants something more continental I would suggest the Q7.

Go with the Range Rover Velar if you’re gonna lease. Unless you’re going bottom end, then the Velar will be too expensive

I have a Jaguar XJL Portfolio and love it. Love the perks like the heated seat massagers. It's very luxurious and has a great ride. I think the interior color options that Jag offers are the best in their class. What surprised me the most was the handling - it's a long wheelbase luxury sedan, but feels like a much smaller car. I only have the 340 hp version, but you'd be shocked how much pep it has for such a large car. I regret not getting the 470 hp version for just a few thousand more, but it's impressive with just the 340. When I was growing up, my dad always had Lncoln Town Cars or Cadillacs. They had luxurious rides, but handled like a boat in rough seas. The Jag has both the comfortable luxury ride and great tight handlng in sport/track mode. I know a couple people who bought the SUVs and love them, and my next door neighbor is about to get one too. I've been very pleased with Jag's service department as well.

Get the Jag.

ETA: Shop around though - I found excellent deals out of state (especially in Florida), and particularly great deals at the end of the year. I went with a demo that had 4K miles and got $20,000 off sticker.
