Why the hell would you sell a tire with a leak?

This actually appeared on a Facebook yard sale around where I live:

***TIRE***
*slow leak
*$45
*tire size: LT265/75R16
*1989 Cheverlot 4 x 4
*good tread

Because you can plug a leak and tires are expensive...

Because there is someone dumb enough to buy it.

Because, even though the person selling it is probably like Forrest Gump without the accomplishments, there is someone dumber that's willing to buy it.

They say those string patches are temporary but I've never had one fail.

String plugs are temporoary, a radial patch is permanent.
I've never had a plug fail, but a patch is a more permanent solution because it basically melts into the tire once it's heated up and they become one. A plug always has the possibility of coming out.
