Why isn't the outrage high for privately kept/ mistreated tigers and lions?

I was fortunate enough to visit a large cat sanctuary in northwestern Arkansas this Monday. Fresh off the talk of Cecil, what I heard here is far far worse than a hunt to kill a lion.

This place houses 65 cats, all rescues. Most are inbred and have the problems that go with it. Most also have had their claws removed in botched surgeries that affect the gait of the cat. One even had only three legs because it's owner never took it to the vet when it got in a fight.

One day a few years back a man had 52 large tigers and said he was going to shoot them all unless they were picked up. This place took 21 another center took the rest. This guy was going to kill 52 tigers and his name never came out.
Maybe even worse a guy could no longer afford to keep his pet tiger and let it go in the Ozark national Forrest, the cat made its way back 60 miles to his house, he then brought it to the sanctuary in the back of a truck.
LSU is not seen as an abuser as the cage Mike has is more than adequate. This place gives 1/4 acre per tiger and it was nice, but I was appalled at the dozens of tigers and lions that die of undernourishment and euthinizing due to lack of resources in this county. To add to insult, most of these owners are "animal lovers" they just can't afford the needed 6-10 pounds of meat a day.

The whole nation can turn on one guy who killed a cat, yet dozens are being kept in this nation and dying and it's like it never happened. You never hear of it.
Forcing Lions and Tigers to breed to create Ligers (they had two at the facility, all have serious health issues)
I am not a fan of large game hunting, but it's much less a problem than the mistreatment and poor care of many domestic exotic cats.

Turpentine Creek sanctuary.

I like most people had no idea that there were so many privately kept exotics.

I never knew how many issues they have. The tour guide was showing us a Lion that was bought for $250 and a Tiger that was bought for $3k (the lion at a livestock auction oddly enough) and they bred and had two Ligers each worth $100k so I see why its done, but it creates a sickly animal that usually dies of gigantism or other defects. A lion or tiger can live to be 25 in captivity a Liger rarely makes it to seven or eight.

I could live another 60 years, but I will never understand the reaction to that. Our species exists today because our ancestors hunted to kill both our predators and our food.

I thought it was crazy too. The cat made it 60 miles in three days without being seen.

Then when he dropped it off he had it in the back of an F150 with a leash. He pulled into he parking lot and went inside to get a worker, when they came back out a family was taking pictures with the tiger in the bed of the truck and petting it.

People are lucky that tiger was somewhat tame. The 20 or so they got from the 52 that were kept in horse trailers are so mean they charge the cages and have to be kept away from people.

Another tiger there had broke a trainer's spine with one bite.

I added that place to my list of places to donate too. Doing good work.
I just think that the private zoo trade is more damaging that a controlled hunt.

Truth, the problem is when you ban people from owning one of these animals then there are some idiots that just have to have one. The sad part is they have no clue what they are getting into and they generally end up creating a monster or killing it from improper care.

It's crazy how much they eat. This sanctuary goes through more than 300,000 pounds of meat a year. Luckily Wal-Mart's headquarters are the next county away and they donated 2/3rds of that with Tyson foods donating the rest.

The lady was saying not all private zoos are bad, and mentioned that Mike the Tiger at LSU probably lives better than almost any other tiger around. (admittedly even better than the ones they care for as he has vets near 24/7)
