Tangipahoa and Livingston parishes have got to be the worst weather parishes in the state.

Reporter: "Wow, that tornado really did a number on this place, huh?"

NO East resident: "The what now?"

Heat island effect of all that concrete creates a relative high pressure over dense urban areas and factories.

Tornados basically bounce off of these and instead impact relatively cooler rural areas like suburbs, farms, and exurbs where there is more vegetation.

The refineries and chemical plants emit so much heat that they cause many storm systems to break up partially, meaning areas directly to the east typically see less bad weather than areas north, west, and south. Exxon often keeps weather in downtown and mid city tame relative to Zachary and LP.

Look at a map. Look at major cities in said map.

Play your odds where is it more likely to hit? The 90%+ area outside of major cities or in a major city?
