Why does the city take so long to switch from old traffic lights to new ones?

I pass the Jefferson/Floynell intersection daily and noticed last week that they put up new lights. Why? I have no idea. But they still have the new ones covered....almost two weeks later. Why do they take so long to switch over?

The new ones are probably in a slightly different location and they want to give people notice the location is changing.

Same reason I-10 merges right when you enter BR. Thankfully, there is a way out.

They could be fine tuning the timing before the new ones go online.

Just because the lights are up doesn't mean the project is finished and they're ready to turn on. There are connections and conversions to be done at the controller box. Maybe they still have pedestrian poles to install. Maybe they still have to add an infrared sensor.

I didn't realize more was involved.

I just figured, "they're up! What's the hold up?!"

That said, it very well could be new orleans being new orleans.

I like the old lights at Dalrymple by the lake and on the side streets at Highland North.

That signal should be timed similarly to it's old counterpart...there shouldn't be much to figure out.

Why do they continue to let people die on Airline Hwy at above Interstate speeds?

The BR traffic engineers have to make sure they're all synchronized so every car catches every red light.
