Ducks Unlimited established a bunch of sanctuaries up north for ducks under the premise that it would protect the duck population for future hunters.
Used to do the north would freeze solid and they all flew south. Now DU keeps water pumped in the sanctuaries and it never freezes allowing a large portion to not migrate
