I have a Target literally right across the street from where I live and I refuse to go there these days because of how hard their cashiers push their Target Red Card on you, despite the fact I have told them "no thanks" the last 100 times I have been there.

I went to Target on Saturday to buy some bug spray, that's it. And they were hassling me about the red card and how I can save 5%. Oooh 5% on a $5 can of bug spray, I can save a whopping $.25. I said no thanks but they kept pushing it. I just wanted to get in and out with a can of damn bug spray and get on with my day. Defeated the entire purpose of the express checkout lane.

I go to Wal-Mart instead, it's a little farther but its cheaper and they don't try to push a card on you. And I can self checkout if I choose to.

It seems like every store these days tries to get you to sign up for their damn store card.

Are you honestly too stupid to not know the answer to this?

Because it's their job and their managers require it of them?

Not saying I like them asking me every time either, but I understand it is their job.

As someone who lives across the street from a Target, you are exactly who that card is for.

Target Red Card is awesome because it isn't really a credit card... But I only got it because I was going to shop their anyways so may as well save 5%.

The real reason is companies are collecting the shite out of the data they get from these reward/store/loyalty cards. They know your name and what exactly you are buying each time you go in...then they connect your name to other demo data they already know about you and make marketing decisions based on it.

Credit cards are pushed because cashier usually get a commission based on sign ups at dept stores

You've been 100's of times, went 40 hours ago but refuse to go there "these days"?

I've only had a couple of target cashiers try to push it on me, usually they drop it immediately when I tell them I'm not interested.

Barnes and Noble is the worst about this. Every time I check out they start their sales pitch, even when I tell them upfront I don't want it they just keep trying to push it on me. Then they give me attitude when I tell them I still don't want it.

I HAD a Target Debit card. Saved 5 percent with each purchase. After their little machine hacking incident, I cancelled it, as the debit card is tied to my checking account.

So now when I am asked at Target, I tell them, "I had one until your company compromised my information". They don't pursue the issue.

You don't get hit up at WalMart because their employees do not give a crap and try to make as little personal contact with you as possible.
