I'd be perfectly fine grilling at the house today, but no. Have to pull the boat to lake Conroe, fight 100s of idiots at the boat ramp, try to eat at a restaurant on the lake at some point which will take hours I'm sure, and watch fireworks while dodging drunks trying not to die on the way back to the ramp...you know, because it's the 'thing' to do and staying home would be too boring. I don't get it.

The whine-brag takes a deft touch but I think you nailed this time.

That is why you have a friend with a boat rather than having the boat yourself.

This isn't a woman thing. It is an extrovert thing. I know women who would rather stay at home or do something low key too.

Did a lot of that while younger but as we aged and kids aged we were able to stay home and kids usually went with friends! So, be patient, and it falls into place......

People did this long before facebook.

Saw an article yesterday that 40% of millennials use their phone to avoid IRL conversation. Now that's a new thing. Pre-phone, it was probably yardwork.

LINK

quote:

This survey throws up more luscious examples of our device-love. Sixty-six percent of Americans rely entirely on their mobile devices for directions. Yes, even if it drives them into a 100-foot lake. Fifty-three percent say they trust their devices for directions more than they trust their loved ones.

And you thought selfies were a young-person thing? Yes, and most definitely no. Ninety-three percent of millennials admit to taking selfies, but so did 50 percent of seniors and 61 percent of baby boomers.

Please consider all this, as you enjoy your barbecue and the occasional barbed comment from an inebriated neighbor.

The people around you may be family and friends. But that little thing in your pocket, well, it's both.

I'm with the original poster. That sounds fricking miserable.

It's a million degrees outside. Last thing I want to do today is be around a bunch of assholes outside in the heat fighting crowds.
