Why do women drivers speed everywhere except the interstate?

A woman driver on a 2 or 4 lane road will often drive as fast as possible.

Get that same driver on the interstate and she will mope along in the fast lane below the speed limit.

Why the difference?

I dated a girl in college who refused to use cruise control on the interstate. I ground my teeth down to powder on a drive to Texas.

Women aren't the only group of people I've noticed that don't use cruise control

Because the interstate is where they do their makeup, send text messages, and catch up on facebook. Need to take it down a couple of notches for that kind of multitasking.

You let her drive while you were sober?

What's wrong with that? I never use cruise control. Personal preference. Hate feeling like I don't have total control of the vehicle.

You're a woman, you wouldn't understand.

Although coming back from TX Sunday afternoon there was too much traffic for me to ever really use cruise control.

Ah, so you're the person constantly speeding up and slowing down on the interstate.

You do have total control. You can raise or lower your speed 1 mph at a time if you are creeping up too fast or want to speed up slightly. You can cancel and resume the cruise with the push of a button and braking will cancel the cruise. How much more control do you want?

Nothing if you can maintain a constant speed. Something that 90% of people on the interstate cannot do.

I don't think all women drive that way. My wife is very deliberate and cautious on surface streets. That style is carried over to a bashful and overly defensive style on the freeway. She doesn't really camp out in the left lane, but IMO she does not gravitate towards the right or check her rear view mirror as she should, especially as a slower driver.

Some of her friends are, IMO, dangerous drivers in a different way. They are inattentive behind the wheel and get distracted too easily by texts, phones, infotainment, etc. I think it helps them to tune everything out, including the radio.

On the flip side, I often find myself driving too quickly. Since I'm an advocate of proper lane usage and I try to keep right when possible, my slightly aggressive driving on the freeway wears me out after fairly short distances. Trying to drive slightly faster than most traffic, strictly adhering to proper lane usage techniques, and monitoring approaching traffic that may be moving faster is exhausting. I think my impatience keeps me from being an excellent driver. I'm trying to work on that. It's much easier to take it easy and stay in the slow lane and be very deliberate with every move. With that attitude and style, I can handle much stints behind the wheel without getting tired - but I sure as hell won't camp out in the left lane when I do that. A lot of people do, especially truckers.

Those seem to be the driving habits of a person who thinks that the world revolves around them. Get out of their way when they are in a hurry, go around them when they are not.

A lot of people drive like that unfortunately.

Driving aggressively without improper lane usage is kind of tiring.

If you see a Nissan Altima, Dodge Durango, Dodge Charger, or Mitsubishi Outlander on the freeway....expect them to drive like that until they get a phone call. They they'll slow down in the left lane and start swerving. When they hang up, they'll start paying attention and pass you again - all while never leaving the left lane.

That's not a bad theory. They may pay more attention on surface streets in stop/go traffic...then let themselves get distracted on freeway slogs.
