German Shepherd Dogs are like taking some super motivated gymrat, giving them a genius IQ (relative of course), and then pumping them full of Jack3d and Adderall.
All day, everyday, it's, "Dude, let's go work out. Dude lets go learn some new shite. Dude, I need some new responsibilities. Dude, I gotta go patrol the yard for intruders. Dude, stop being lazy and throw the fricking ball."
Yeah, I remember reading about how German sheps get really restless and miserable if you dont play with them and give them a "purpose", which is why I'm waiting till I graduate and have my own place and can spend time with it.
Glad to hear it. They're not a breed that will be content chilling around the house while you're gone all day and then getting 15 minutes of "play" before you crash on the couch to watch TV all night. Also, just a general tip but I highly recommend crate training the dog, but never use the crate as a form of punishment. I crate trained both of my GSDs and they love the damn things because it's their little private den and
I haven't had a single accident in the house with either of them, even when they were 8, 9, 10 weeks old. Also, avoid dog parks but keep in mind that you can't socialize these dogs enough. They need to experience as many new things, and people, as possible, just be sure to do it in a controlled manner where you know who/what you're exposing your dog to. Temperament is a huge issue with the breed.
