Why do people buy those ticky-tacky houses all in a row?

It baffles me why people would buy a new house in a neighborhood where all the houses look the same, and most of them have the garage doors facing the street. I was on a street the other day that was so uniform I thought I was in a scene from A Wrinkle in Time.
To me the epitome of charm is Southdowns or University Acres.
So please enlighten me. What is the appeal of these soulless, poorly built, drone hives?

I hate them. Truly, truly hate them. I don't care that other people live in them, but I don't want one. Trying to find a new house now and all I keep finding are these god awful cookie cutters. They cause an existential crisis for me.

I don't care for them. They seem to be poorly built and have a bad resale value with newer ticky tacky homes going up every day. Plus they lack character.

This OP is less of a "gosh, why can't everyone afford to live in the most expensive and sought-after neighborhoods in town??" and more of a "look what great taste I think I have!"

Bang for buck.
Looked at several a couple years ago in the ~200-270 range that were in the cookie cutter mold. Hard to deny the ability to move in to a turn key house that you can pick all the inside amenities to your liking.
They make great starter homes or even retirement homes, but you just lose all the character.
Definite trade off.
