Why do golf clothes look so fricking stupid?

Watching the Open. The caps, shirts, pants......look like crap and would never be worn in public other than a golf course. Why is this?

Eh, it's hit or miss.
Traditional golf attire can be over the top, but this move to appeal to international audiences (ridiculously cut shirts on dudes who shouldn't wear them) and younger people (flat bills, most of what Adidas/Puma try and do) has resulted in some awful stuff.
Just watching right now, Spieth always has a decent look, even though a lot of Under Armor designs are terrible. I'm guessing he prefers they dial it back a bit for his stuff.
