Why do coworkers scratch their backs on my door frame?
Posted by Eli Goldfinger on 5/24/17 at 4:01 pm316
All but 1 of my coworkers who regularly drop by my office - including the women - will eventually back up to my door frame and start scratching their backs.
Should I take this as a sign that they're comfortable enough with me to let down their guards, or should I assume something in my office is making them itchy?

They all sense you're a beta and are claiming your territory.

Animals do this to communicate territory. You are nothing but territory to be claimed and you have no skin in the game

LOL. There's one guy who works for me that does that on my door frame. Almost every time he comes and visits me. I think he's flirting.

One time, there was a project going on that was pretty big. The company ended up renting a building that use to be a small law firm or something, but they took everything out so it was a huge empty space with offices in the corners of the building and a break room. They put up a bunch of cubicles and there was about 45-50 of us in there.
People would just randomly go up to a cubical they were around and start scratching their back. One time I came back from lunch. Everyone was pretty much still at lunch, but when I went inside there was this one guy in there. He was all into it... It took him a few seconds to realize I came in (it was actually me and another guy who went to lunch together). When he saw us, he slowed down and played it off cool. He didn't stop right away like he had just been caught jerking off, but he slowed down then stopped and was like "what did you have for lunch?".
We and the other dude went into his office and laughed because it was as if he had been into it for a long time....And it was as if he was getting off on it.. Anyway, it would probably be funnier in person.

I'll catch myself doing this subconsciously sometimes. It's usually at an intern's cubicle or a secretary. And this one midget guy.
