Just passed a couple nice ones. Made me think why they weren't a hot seller. How many years were they made?

Looked like it was competition for the Miata. In general I think Honda is better than mazda.

I beg to differ. My Porsche Carrera 4 cabriolet was the GOAT

I thought they made if for 10-12 years (not sure?) which is not bad for a narrow target market vehicle.
Also, it was an expensive alternative to a Miata.

I remember the s2000 being described as the car to buy if you wanted to trick freshman co-ed's into thinking you drove a Porsche.

Why is this thread anchored. Actual good topic that isn't political or racial.

They only came in manual transmission, which eliminated women from potential market.

Too small for anyone over 6' tall. I'm 6'2" and drove an S2000 once with seat all the way back and my knees were still hitting the dashboard.

So their only market was short men

Was it a 964? Hard top or targa 911 >>> cab. IMO. why make it heavier, less stiff, and uglier?

They're fun as hell to drive. Unfortunately, they have retained they're value extremely well, otherwise I'd buy one.

Yes about a third more expensive than a miata. my mom had a 2004 that she bought for 19k in 2006. She sold it last year for 17. Not a bad deal. Low mileage clean ,unmolested ones are in the 20's now/

Give me a black s2000, carbon fiber hardtop, supercharger with hondata tune, and gold volks over nearly anything else close in price range. Yes, even a used M3. Nothing beats a small lightweight RWD car.

Enthusiast cars retain their value if they are not modified. The Japanese ones are usually much more expensive than the average car from their manufacturer. The production numbers are not absurdly high to begin with. Once they depreciate a little, a large percentage of them get chopped up which makes the clean ones few and far between.

1. Relatively expensive (cheaper than a Boxster but more than a Miata, so perhaps not so bad).

2. Manual only.

3. Only 2 seats.

An excellent halo car for Honda, but it was never going to be a big seller. Mazda produced three times as many RX-8s, despite its unreliable and fuel thirsty engine, and I think a big reason for that is because the RX-8 was cheaper and had a usable back seat.
