Why did SC start flying Confederate flag in 1962?

I am learning from everyone here that the flag is about Southern heritage, tradition, and honor. It's a way of memorializing the brave men who fought in the war of northern aggression. I know for nearly everyone it's definitely not about white supremacy or black oppression. Those people who view it that way just don't understand, they misinterpret things. The KKK and other hate groups misuse the flag.
I guess just confused why SC didn't fly it until 62 and AL till 63. Why the sudden upswing of Dixie Pride? Why weren't they honoring those brave soldiers who supported states rights before then?
Was something happening in the early 60s that triggered southerners to remember their great southern heritage?
Thanks for helping me out with this.

Maybe in spite of the civil rights movement b/c of the views politicians in that state had at the time.

No, that wouldn't make sense. If that were true that would mean that SC started flying the flag as an act of defiance of Civil Rights and black equality. It would mean SC was using the flag as a means to express white supremacy. And that's clearly not what the flag represents!

Congratulations on this novel thought that has in no way, shape or form been discussed here prior to your post.

I think it was decided to fly it in 1961

If it was just about 100 year anniversary why leave it up?

Obviously it's because South Carolina hates black people at an institutional level. Feel better now?

I love the reasons people come up with to hang on to that damn confederate flag,

Guns kill people
Flags cause racism

Obviously because South Carolina was proud of their racist heritage.
Am I doing it right?

It was the centennial - so there was, at least, that. I'm not going to argue that the civil rights movement wasn't gaining momentum at the same time - it clearly was, but correlation does not equal causation.
I've seen that linkage before, but I believe the links are tenuous at best.

As much as it pisses people off, it looked badass on the top of the Gen. Lee baws.

And just like any war, the old soldiers, themselves, carry the banner until they're all gone - the younger veterans started dying in droves in the 20s and 30s and were pretty much all gone by the end of WWII. You will see the same sentiments in this country, accelerate over the next decade or so, as the WWII veterans are dying off rapidly. There will be a surge of patriotism (maybe) around the time of December 7, 2141 - some 26 years hence.

Do you think people who believe this should lose their First Amendment rights? Should they be prosecuted? Who's next?

You're either wilfully ignorant or just making shite up. Georgia started flying it in 1956. SC in 1961. The centennial of the war is the primary reason of the timing. You should update your OP to show "factual" dates so as not too come across as a lying sack of shite.
