Dates as in two people meeting up to see if they are compatible?

Seriously, I might go look at a street sign and see the date and say "oh yeah, I know what he is talking about", but at the moment, I can't picture what you are referring to.

I've noticed it a decent amount of places. It's the date written on the back of a street sign in black.

The signs predate the written date, so I'm not sure it's install date, but it easily could be inspection date. I just had never heard of a DOT employee inspecting street signs. What would that even look like?

This sign's fine. Let me write a date on it? Plus, there are plenty of signs without dates.

I assumed graffiti, but as I was traveling, I didn't understand why a graffiti artist would just write a date. No initials. Just a date.

Not a block number. It's a date I'm assuming.

It's written like

10
---
28
---
15

Install and Inspection

There is a legal shelf life for signs

For instsnce, the signs on an exit ramp telling you what food or gas stations are near, are supposed to be replaced every 4 years

I'm guessing you've never been on a date before

Replacement dates. Run over a stop sign and they will replace it and put the current date on it.

Expiration dates. If it's past it you don't have to stop.

Most DOTs do night rides annually or semi-annually to check reflectivity of the signs. If deficient, they will be changed and the install date sticker is used for tracking the life of the reflective material and the sign blanks.

When I moved into my neighborhood like 5 years ago, there was one from 1983. I figured it kinda went rogue and was off the registers but they finally swapped it out.

when the guys install them, they are required to sign or put their initials and date them, they also file paperwork stating who installed it and when.

this way they can get blamed if they did it wrong or do shoddy work that has to be redone
