Why are so many Mattress Direct/Firm/King stores opening in cities?

Baton Rouge has approximately 13 different mattress stores. I'm noticing they're opening multiple locations in other cities. However, I've yet to see one car in the parking lot at any location. I've walked into a couple stores and asked how many mattresses this young fella sells on a regular basis. He nervously chuckled, and said "Man, not too many."

Yet, they keep opening more locations.

Am I missing something? Is this a huge money laundering scheme?

How many people can you think of who don't sleep on one?

Some people use the mattress to store money.

In my family, there's always money in the Banana Stand.

Just recently found out that there is MASSIVE mark up on these products. They do well even with low sales.

Approximately 13? That's a pretty exact number if there ever was one.

I bought a 3k king size mattress from them (Mattress Firm) earlier this year. Came with a adjustable bed frame, and I had him throw in free sheets, gel pillows, reduced price & delivery/haul off. He didn't even blink. I know there's huge markup, but being able to lay on a mattress & test it out is worth it to picky sleepers. Glad we tested ours we went different direction of mattress than we had planned on going in. Markup is probably 50% so do the math on a few sales of those a month.

FYI- if you know the specs they all sell the same bed pretty much, but each store has a different name for theirs. Use this against them, and haggle. It's like shopping for a new truck at a dealership, but every truck model is named differently from dealership to dealership. It makes used car guys look like preachers.

You can fix up a former Blockbuster outlet and rent it for cheap while filling it with lower tier mattresses marked up to the point where a "Half Off" sale still makes you a great profit.

That's why.

lower tier mattresses

You realize they sell higher end mattresses like Temperpedic & iComfort series right? Kind of a tard comment.

Edit: Sorry just noticed you're an U LALA fan. My bad.

I have often wondered why the Jones Creek Blockbuster never turned into a mattress store.

And why do all closed Burger Kings become a PoBoy shop?

Probably because the have a grill and fryer.

Good news for BR, the Applebee's at Perkins Roe finally closed! I hope the put something respectable in its place.

They only have to sell 3 mattresses per month to cover the store's fixed cost.

Applebee's is trash! Good!

Don't hold your breath for anything better, though! Freaking Chili's will probably show up soon!

I used to sell mattress store that basically showed customers the differences and what they were looking at from store to store. We were always lower...we were pretty transparent.

Unfortunately, a business model like that doesn't work in the long run. People don't appreciate good business.

Anytime a burger King closes, you can bet your arse that fryer is either going back to corporate or being sold off.

That being said, it's set up with hood vents and such to be able to accept a new fryer and still follow fire codes.
