Herd mentality was exacerbated by social media. Once something reaches a certain point of popularity people don't want to be the odd person out saying they don't like something.

Things like avocados, bacon, beards, star wars, wine, etc. have always been popular but with social media these things "went viral". Just like people don't want to be the only person who hasn't seen that funny video everyone's talking about, people are loathe to admit they don't like something that's considered a cultural norm.

But if you smash one it's really satisfying.

Well from what i remember happening is this, and technically I am a melinaial.

Eating "raw" avacado became a thing in southern California. Mix that in with the Kardashian and laguna hills type shows showing younger women eating them. It then became popular among a lot of younger healthy types. Also dieting made them popular like the keto diet.

Now, ppl have been eating avacado for years, primarily in guac.

Millenials favorite phrase now is "Hold my Avacado" instead of "Hold my Beer"...

...Pussies.

It's a running joke.

I sold a house to a young couple and at the closing they held up a sign for a pic that said "we don't spend our money on avocado toast." Their parents bought the house for them... it was cringeworthy

Maybe it's a bad time to tell them it takes between 72-97 gallons of water to grow 1 lb of avocados.

What's more cringeworthy is the fact you made up that story to impress people on a message board by capitalizing on the general dislike of millennials here.

This makes sense. Though I don't give a damn who knows I hate avocado and thought the last star wars film was bad. It's a shame people don't celebrate uniqueness.

I don't get this at all. An avocado is like $1.75. That's not expensive.

I know right. If you search my post history you'll see I have a habit of doing that.
