Who's the a-hole? Me or My Future Father-in-Law?

My fiancée's parents came to visit a few months ago and stayed with us. Her mother has a little yappy dog that she treats like a child, so of course it came to visit too. They were all more than welcome but I made it clear that dogs are not allowed on the furniture. We have a lab and he is not allowed on the furniture either. They said they were fine with this, but while here, her father made several comments about how our dog should come live with them where he can be on the sofa. Or maybe we should invest in some sofa covers so the dog can get on the furniture. I let these comments go so as not to start shite.
Well they're coming back to town next weekend and apparently are staying with other members of their family. They didn't even call their only daughter. I'm thinking this is 100% b/c of the dog situation. I personally don't care that they're staying somewhere else but my fiancee is hurt even though she agrees with me.
I feel like her parents are the assholes b/c this stupid yappy dog seems more important than anything. But apparently they see me as the a-hole for not allowing their stupid dog on the furniture b/c they're the guests. I'm not backing down on this and think they're wrong. Besides animals on furniture is trashy

Are you a cop? Just do what comes natural and shoot the dog.

Your house, your rules.
My dog is on the couch all the time, so don't wear black at my house. But I am trashy.

1st of many bullshite in-law drama sessions. You may feel the need to assert yourself here, but make sure it counts. Either set the tone or get ready to just get shite on for the rest of the marriage.

Your house, your rules. Also, animal people are some of the most annoying people on the planet.

Are they not visiting their daughter at all or just staying with other family while visiting??

I have this exact situation, but I'm the a-hole with the little dog.
If my (step) FIL said no dogs on the furniture, I could live with that. That's not unreasonable.
But that a-hole won't even let him stay anywhere in the house. Not even locked up in the bathroom or storage room. He's an a-hole. You're accomodating, IMO.

People who treat pets as their children are some of the lowest form of people on Earth.

Your house, your rules. I don't see a problem with that.

Just another case of people and their stupid dogs. Get a couch cover so your dog can sit on the couch?

Why do they have to bring their dog with them?
Maybe other family offered first? Maybe the other family has more space? Could be several other reasons besides the dog.
