I know of very few writers who do this. The titanic majority of sex scenes I've read in stories and novels are embarrassingly bad, even to the point of making one question the pleasure of the act.

I was reminded of all this when I reread j.g. ballad's 'crash" for the dozenth or so time. ballard is a master of sex scene writing, a combination of economic, razor sharp observation that is at the same time rich in emotional, psychological and physical metaphor. Superb writing.

So ... do you know of any novelists or short story writers who excel in describing and transcending the erotic?

If so, name of author and book or story title, please.

Lady Chatterly's Lover by DH Lawrence is considered the gold standard in this. Movie's good too.

Well ... okay. Martin Amis and John LeCarre also come to mind.

That's ballard, Lawrence, Amis and LeCarre, all Brits.

Hm.

How about this example by Rebecca Fay:

quote:

I don't know what made it happen. I don't know what made the change. But looking up at his face...I felt myself get wet. It came from inside and I could feel the muscles flowing, giving out that liquid...And Oliver smiled down at me, so I guess he could feel it too. He turned me over and I heard the towel fall, crumple on the floor. I heard it, even with my face crushed in the carpet...Hard and steady on the back of my head, I could feel his fingers tangle in my hair. His palm print on my neck. It was a good feeling. And I got wetter.

Amazing is the amount I learned from your mother.

From my latest book,
The Boobs of Cleavage Manor

And so he reached tenderly out to her, prying soft skin from the prison of her petticoat. Her bosom now free, the darkness of her nipple in stark contrast to her alabaster flesh. He grasped her breast. It was like a bag of wet sand, malleable yet firm.

His face contorted as he soiled his pantaloons. "Was it good for you?, he queried.
