Usually part of the funeral bill, so the deceased family...

Its a courtesy. You get to run a few lights on your last ride.

A hundred cars traveling to and from the same place is worthy of extra traffic control. No different than working traffic at a ballgame, just smaller scale.

majority aren't real police(on duty)

they are off duty/retired policemen who work for the funeral places but on funerals, they do traffic like real cops.

part of funeral price

if real cops, then person is connected or was police officer/etc and it's guys from traffic or cops who are off duty and doing it to represent the PD.

They should stop doing them. Proven hazard.

They are paid as part of the funeral service by the deceased family

The service courtesy was abandoned in the City of Tuscaloosa a few years ago after one of the motorcycle cops helping in the procession was struck and killed by a car (that wasn't in the procession)

Small town here, but county seat. The local police will direct traffic. No extra cost.

Mostly its a courtesy, most of the time you don't even have to ask. I do remember a few years ago for Aunt the service was in Covington and the we buried her in Madisonville. CPD didn't show up so a few of us took it upon ourselves to block intersections.

All the ridiculous and irrelevant things money is wasted and this is the one people complain about?

Good reason to be friends with the traffic commanders and motor cops. My funeral is going to have the OT bitching like obama came to town

I hate these and the idiots that stop when it is traveling in the opposite direction. I got places to be.

This is inaccurate in every way.

These are called part time or side jobs. The family of the deceased pay the offucers directly. The officer, who are real officers, must already have a patrol cehicle assigbed ir available for use, just get approval from their department.

My grandmother died poor and there was police escort for her funeral in New Orleans. Motorcycle cops.
