Why don't we make musicals that make fun of fricked up communities and fricked up ethnic groups?

Did you see the musical?

If this country as 80% mormon, we would have no poverty, no broken families, no crime, and we wouldn't have people who are different people on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

you can't make a popular play in today's world that mocks Christianity. It would be polarizing at best.

Mormons were chosen to be the object of satire because Mormons are the least likely to raise hell in protest,

Link where Parker or Stone said this? Or any evidence what-so-ever about this assertion?

An 80% majority of any one religion is tyrannical. Thats way past the point where they can legislate theyre fundamentalist views. Sounds fricking awful

I also wonder how the Mormons reacted to this? Or even super religious people/groups as it does subtly mock all religion throughout, not simply Mormons.

My entire family is Mormon. Most of them took it for what it is, satire. A few actually saw and enjoyed it, and a few were mad.

Most Mormons I know are also very nice and if they're judgmental, they never show it like a lot of the holy rollers down south.

That said, they, like any religion, are not "clean" from committing atrocities. Granted, this was a long time ago, but they have their fair share of skeletons in the closet also LINK .

When we saw it, friendly Mormons were outside handing out the Book of Mormon and saying "you've seen the play, now read the book."

Was pretty impressed with how they handled it. But it's not surprising to me considering every Mormon I've ever met has been exceedingly pleasant.

You know why you wouldn't see poverty or broken families or alternates? Because they would be shunned by the Mormon community and outcast to never never land. During Soviet times never never land was Siberia.
