Remember when people were giving money to Hubig's for the promise of a case of pies as soon as they reopened? Guess what...
BTW, pineapple was the best.

The former site of the Hubig's Pie fried pie factory is poised to become home to Baker's Row condominiums, in a transition from an old New Orleans classic to new real estate.
Hubig's Pie in Faubourg Marigny burned down nearly three years ago. Meanwhile, the site of the destroyed factory on Dauphine Street has remained vacant. "We saw an opportunity to take a piece of New Orleans' history and develop a respectful tribute in residential form," said developers Michael Bosio and Kyle Resmondo of MK RED in a statement. "Having both lived in New Orleans for several years, we love this neighborhood. The New Orleans real estate market is hot everywhere, including the Marigny."

Property records show Bakers Row LLC bought the property from Pie Dauphine LLC earlier this week for $770,000. Hubig's Pie factory was destroyed by the July 27, 2012, blaze that was reported in the early morning hours. The old-fashioned pies with a rotund baker on the wrapper have been missing from shelves around the city since then.

I thought they were looking for a new site for the factory anyway?

What I'm hearing is that one co-owner is trying to buy the other one out. The one that is looking to be bought ought wants 100% value of the company instead of what his 50% share actually is.
Stalemate.

Every New Orleanian I've met overrates two things: Hubig pies and Buds Broiler.
Strictly the nostalgia effect.

Hubig's pies sucked arse. People only like them now b/c it's another New Orleans thing that everyone says they miss.
I had several friends lament the loss of Hubig's pies and when I asked when the last time they bought one was they kinda laughed and said maybe 15 yrs ago.

They were damn good. OTOH, I couldn't really tell the difference between them and other brands that are still out there.
