How conservative is it? I don't mean in voting, I mean if I buy a 300K house will the neighbors be pissed to see a full sleeved Woman living next door or hassle me?

Don't take my word, come here when a festival is happening in downtown Franklin, meet the locals, and judge for yourself. While we have a large Christian conservative demographic, one day here would ease your mind.

Look at the pay in Nashville for RNs. That's depressing LINK

No state income taxes

Public schools > LA private schools

Property taxes + insurance

Quality of life

I've lived in both an equal time in my life. It's a no brainer, keep paying for that private safety, I mean education.

I've been fine in TX since Nov when I moved here, but I would not consider Houston at all, though.

I am in Virginia this week, and it is a really nice place. Tons of history. I could live here and be happy.

I would go with a rural state like Montana/idaho/Dakotas just because they are more conservative, and likely value eduction and quality of life issues more than most.

Imho, having lived in every region except the Midwest I would cast my vote for Colorado. The quality of life is just better there.

Hawaii would be in the mix if you were absolutely loaded and had the right kind of personality to deal with the geographic isolation.

I think Louisiana has the friendliest, most fun-loving people in America though.

Is Cali still considered a "destination" state? It seems like people are migrating out of there in droves.

I live in Texas, it's a great state....
Except for the left laners, and that whole " we are better than you inspite of being a bunch of land grabbing , Indian killing, robber baron, Enron apologists, Corp welfare opportunists who would push their grandmother in front of a bus for a dollar" crowd...

Silicon Valley, Seattle, Denver, and Boston. In that order. Also assuming you've already found a girl to settle down with. The ladies in these areas are not easy on the eyes.

I agree with this list. Brought a good southern girl to Boston with me and love it up here. But I would move to northern Cali or Denver in a heartbeat.

LINK

The hilarity is using the exact same website, nurses in her area make less than in mine, property taxes are double, and they have a state income tax
