I would have thought navy was preferred over black.
Also, If I was an employer attending the event, I don't think I would want them to provide any instructions. Let the idiots sort themselves out up front.

A blue suit is so much more professional than black. You're not going to a damn funeral. And if you wear black shoes with a blue suit then there is no hope for you especially if you are under 55.

I was always raised on cordovan/burgundy with blue suits, but all the young baws in my building and the O-T style experts say brown shoes are the way to go now. I'm out of touch.

I think they over reacted, but I understand the strict rules. Whatever rules are set, people in the group will push the issue. The school activity recruit employers to come to their job fair to hire the students. If these companies show up and the students present themselves in a substandard way, what are the chances those companies are going to attend next year?
