Where in the annals of history did Houston flood worse than Harvey? You're fricking high.

No ma'am im not. Once when i was young the rain and flooding in my area got up to our garage. For Harvey, it only got as high as our sidewalk. But like i said, it might be because of the are. Plus back then we might'be just gotten a shite load of rain

If you want to the laid back attitude with more traffic and no culture, Houston.

No culture? The frick. Houston's a melting pot filled with culture. Maybe you've just been or lived in the wrong area?

What happened with all the rage of McKinney? Isn't it one of the more desirable suburbs, or has that ship sailed?

McKinney was #1 place to live in the country OVER 100,000 residents

Allen is #1 UNDER 100,000

McKinney is about land locked and now there is a big push for commercial development. There's not enough room to land a huge company (like Amazon's HQ2) so they are beginning lots of development along US 380... which is already busy. The city didn't plan it's city admin infrastructure very well and can't spend anymore on it til more tax dollars come in. The downtown area and some neighborhoods are nice.

3. Austin - Wasn't originally in the decision but Austin is turning into a mini-Silcon valley. Smaller than both Houston and Dallas but there a lot of land for growth and building real estate. Great scenery, nice people and opportunities. Has a college vibe mainly due to UT but that's expected once you go into the city.

You're making me what to move to Austin. This post and some other poster's description of the city

Austin is great..... or at least it used to be. I spent 9 months out there on a project. Traffic is terrible now. Home prices have tripled. Basically, people found out about it and flocked to it.

New Braunfels is the tits though.

Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park.

That's where it's at.

Austin doesn't have a college town vibe. Hell, it doesn't even have an Austin vibe anymore.

SAN Marcos has a college vibe if that's what you're going for.

I really like Georgetown. Only 40,000 people and just 30 minutes from Austin.

You missed the boat on Austin turning into a mini-Silicon valley. That happened years ago then it pulled back. Still a lot of tech companies there, but not near the amount of actual silicon it used to have. AMD is done, TI is gone, Motorla shut down. Samsung is still kicking, but not at the growth rate they were projecting. All the produce now is logic. No more flash or DRAM.

I'd say more of a IT valley now. Web developers, software engineers, and DBAs out of the arse there. Unfortunately, the job market is flooded and pay has decreased as a result if you're looking.

My buddy is on the golf team at Southwestern in Georgetown, does that city not seem like a college town?

For most people on this board Georgetown probably seems more like a retirement home.

So....Ive been going to austin and sometimes living there since 1983. It never had an "Austin" vibe, so much of "Austin" is myth building. Back in the early 90's, it was difficult to find the cool Austin.....just like today. But its still there its just way further south and east...way east. I like places in town too but young creatives cant afford to live in town. So it all moves out. As a tourist, you aren't going to find the cool house parties......just like in 1991.

I get it, I live here. Austin is trying to find/decide its identity and has been for a while. When in reality it's like that friend in high school or college who tried too hard to be cool and fit in.

Why? Houston handled Harvey much better than expects. Most parts of the city were back to normal within a week
