Discussing this with a friend the other day.
Put the new tires in front and the old in rear, or vice versa?

New tires go on the rear.
I see there are 15 dumbasses in here.

almost all tire installers will insist that you put them on the rear.
My traditional thinking is to put them on the steering axle, but apparently, there is more danger of the back end sliding around in wet weather than there is of a blowout on the front.

Supposed to put the best tires on the rear to prevent loss of control (oversteer) in an emergency situation.

The Continental Tire ads that are running on the Dan Patrick Show recommend putting the new tires on the rear axle when only replacing two tires at a time.

Front, a rear end blowout will allow you to maintain control

Rear
I just did this. Rotated lightly-used tires to the front, new in the rear. After flipping the front tires left-to-right to correct a perceived alignment issue -- thank you Gordon and Sandifer for that trick -- car drives great.

It's recommended to put them on the rear. I've also heard the drive wheels. The perception is that understeer is less dangerous than oversteer.
I personally would put them on the front. This should alllw the vehicle to maintain steering control in an oversteer situation. I've had some excessive understeer situations and it's not comforting just pushing through a turn with no control or correction. In an oversteer, as long as the wheels are pointed in the correct direction the vehicle should correct to it. The back end flying around is more comforting to me than the loss of steering and braking control.

They will have you put them on the rear because of some bullshite lawsuit… Limiting their exposure… Not sure if the science is accurate…
