Where to recycle glass bottles?
Posted by TronWall on 10/21/17 at 2:31 pm34
I used to shoot empty wine bottles for target practice on a friend's property in the woods, but since that is no longer an option, I have many cases of empty bottles. If I'm not mistaken, Baton Rouge recycling just sends glass to the landfill. Are there any places in town that actually recycles glass? TIA

I think there is still a recycling collection day on every third Saturday of the month on Florida Blvd. When I still lived in my apartment a few years ago, I used to take my recyclables there, including glass. I'm not sure the block location, but it was behind the old Chinese restaurant on Florida.

Isn't glass more expensive to recycle than make?

Target stores have recycling bins near their customer service counters and accept glass, as long as it's not broken.

amirite?
But seriously, it was his idea. There is a secluded area, well into the woods, where we would shoot. He has recently leveled much of the trees, expanded his campground business, and the site is just a little too close to the campers to shoot out there now.

They do recycle brown, green, and clear glass. There was an issue where they didn't have the proper equipment to wash the glass before sending on to be reprocessed but my understanding is that this has been resolved.

You're welcome.

No it's not. Recycling keeps a lot of waste out of the landfills, which are steadily filling up. It also saves energy. For example, for every aluminum can that is recycled, it saves 90% of the energy it takes to produce the virgin aluminum to make a new can.

I mean that's not all it's made of, but regardless, there isn't a market for recycled glass, so it usually is just diverted to the landfill at this point.

No, wrong.
