Looking to get a new suit for my dad's funeral services

And how long does it typically take to get tailored and ready?

I know there's Brookes Bro's and Jos. A Banks, but didn't know if they were good stuff

How often do you wear suits? My Banana Republic Suit has lasted well for me over the past 3 years, but i only wear it 1-2 times a year so it doesn't get much use

ETA: you can usually find them on sale for $300-400

My condolences.

Brooks Brothers is pretty legit, Jos. A Bank not so much.

Go see Frank McLavy. He will make sure it is tailored and ready for you in time.

Sorry for your loss.

Where is he located?

And thanks for the condolences guys. He was cremated, so I may have a few weeks before I need the suit since it will only be a memorial mass. And I usually wear my suit 2-3 times a year.

I'll check out BB and Banana Rep. also

Can't go wrong with BB. In BR check out McLavy's, Perlis or Carriages. Martinez does custom suits if you're wanting to go all out.

Condolences.

Jos A Banks has a range of quality. I usually hit up their sales. It doesn't sound like you buy suits often so I wouldn't go all out if you don't/won't wear a suit often.

IMO, the "quality" of a suit is close to irrelevant.
#1 - fit & tailor
#2 - cut (slim, traditional, etc)
#3 - accessories (tie/bow, cuffs, shoes, etc)
#4 - dress shirt

If you nail those 4, you can make a $100 suit look like a $1000+ suit.

That's my main concern. I'm looking for it to be tailored to my size and fit well. I'm relatively short, so I don't want it looking baggy like some I've had in the past.

Go check out the Brooks Brothers outlet store at Tanger in Gonzales. You'll find one for a great price. Can't go wrong.

If you need it fast and you aren't oddly shaped, just get one already tailored.

Banana Republic, Express, and even Burlington coat factory has them.

Go to any of the stores mentioned in here and let them know up front that #1 is having the suit ready in time. Most of the outlet/chain stores subcontract out the tailoring. That means their normal turn around is slow... a week for simple hemming. If they can't promise quick turn around, you should be able to get an independent tailor to do a quick job. Get all that sorted out beforehand though.

I've tried on / owned suits from most of the places mentioned in this thread. For a tailored / modern fit, your best bet is going to be Banana Republic. I'd stay away from Jos A Banks and Brooks Brothers' factory store. If Banana Republic doesn't work out, go to Carriages, which is gonna be pricer but well worth it.

Go to George Bass on Corporate Ask For Chase

He is the son

And if you have only one suit - buy a nice one
