together?

Apologies for the cliffhanger title but I ran out of room.

So in my hometown my grandparents, uncles, and dad are all buried in our family plot at the local cemetery. My mom will be there when it's her time to go. But at what point does this stop? I'm sure that I'm supposed to be there too, but I don't live in that town anymore. And I mean even if I was put there to be with my family, what about my future wife? And what if we have a few kids? I mean there's only so much room there so it's gotta stop eventually. Are you considered an ahole if you say "ehhhh sorry family, I'm gonna go start my own thing in another cemetery"?

This sounds like it might just be a Georgia thing.

which part, being buried with your family? In LA do they just pick an open field to throw you into?

They are dead, I really don't think they will be upset.

I don't care what happens to me after I die. How will I even know? It is so silly. Just cremate me and spread my ashes somewhere that makes the living person feel better.

So I've got some experience & opinions here.

I think moving away from an area gives you the option of being buried (or having a marker, as we did for my cremated mom) wherever you feel most connected to at the time of your death or during your life.

Past 3-4 generations of both sides of family (mom's & dad's) are buried in cemeteries nearby each other (my parents are divorced though).

My dad informed me a few years back that he and his brother bought 18 plots in the cemetery where his parents are. 9 each. Did I want some? (That was a WTF? conversation.)

I haven't lived in that area in years. My husband and kids have no connection to the area other than me, and I'm closer to them than my childhood family. And if we get stuck in the afterlife interacting with the people we're buried near, I'd need somebody to kill me again before I stayed there for eternity.

Also, I want to be cremated, not embalmed and buried.

Myself, with being cremated, I might just request a marker (or ash spread) at all of them- with Mom's family, dad's family, where I live now, where I retire, tiger stadium, the coast of Italy (family might as well make it a vacation, right?)

Got a lot of my family members buried in Eunice LA and Opelousas. I believe my dad will want to be buried there in Eunice with his brothers, but I'd rather be buried in my hometown in Bama.

Actually what my dad asked for. He's the first of his family to not be buried at Lacassine Cemetary.

We have a family cemetery. The upside is that it is about 1/10 the price of other cemeteries.

You wouldn't be the first dude on top your mom.

I kid because I don't like thinking about the subject.

Does LA make a habit of burying people on top of each other? Strange.

Yeah, it's pretty typical in NOLA. I think they pull the coffin out after a period of time put the remains in a body bag and there is a vault in the crypt that stack them in. Weird shite. At least that's what was explained to me by the funeral home.

I worked at a funeral home for a few years and I've never seen this in my life. Then again we didn't really deal with crypts either.
