Warm salt water rinses.
Failing that, clear liquids, stay hydrated, rest.

Usually if I get the scratchy throat, I'm fricked within 6 hours or so. That cold sets in fast.
Sometimes, especially in winter, I'll wake up feeling a tinge of a cold coming on, like some slight soreness in my throat or whatnot. About half the time, if I pound the water and alternate with some hot tea or something, it never materializes much and I can largely get past it without more cold symptoms.

If just a sore throat, I usually take lots of fluids. I'll drink some warm liquids, like chicken broth, to soothe
sometimes I'll take some ibuprofen and DayQuil/NyQuil. Never lasts me more than 2-3 days

Two nights of drinking Whiskey usually cures mine.

If it feels like post nasal drip causing the sore throat then I take benedryl at night. Dries it all up. If it is strep throat then I hit the antibiotics.

I had a cough and a sore throat last week. I had to go to the doc to get a refill on my allergy medicine and I mentioned it and he told me to go swimming in the caribbean sea. It worked.
