What's up with all the halloween parties the weekend before halloween?

I'm seeing tons of FB pics of costumed halloween party people. Halloween is on a Friday this year is it not? Why not wait til the actual Halloween weekend?

When I was in college Halloween parties would start 2 weekends before Halloween. It's better that way than having them all one night.
