Well I guess the OP should have qualified his question with the caveat that you should only post if you were financially independent and truly destitute.

well I was always flirting with broke in college, and lived off 2-3k per year. First year out of college, I felt like I was living like a king off $7k. Grad school was actually tougher than undergrad to live cheaply, bc the wife had a full time job as did I. But our expenses were so much higher then, and we were used to things a bit nicer by then.

I wouldn't stress over the downvotes. I didn't give you one, just offered that up as a reason some may have given you one.

quote:Not stressing. Just found it curious. The guy below me posting that he and his wife subsisting on $65K a year and now making over $200K was subtle-brag. The period I described was honestly the only time I ever missed a meal or stayed put because I could hardly afford gas money.

Sorry.

At one point I had no car, $4k in debt and a negative balance in my bank account. That was fun...

poor is a relative term...
I ate beans and rice....
I ate taters and bologna...
I don't consider That poor...

What's the poorest you've ever been?
Couldn't afford a honeymoon so we went to the apt.
I'd picked some flowers. Put them in a peanutbutter container vase on a folding card table/chairs with a sheet for tablecloth. Used a Kentucky Fried Chicken Bucket filled with ice to chill a bottle of champagne from the wedding.
We had no furniture. Had about $20 to our names.
Bought a very used couch for $3.
Gave us an opportunity to buy a rocker.
We went back and forth between two retailers for a couple of hours to negotiate $2 off of a $17 bentwood rocker. Ended up with $2 in pocket after buying the couch and rocker.
It was a great day.

My checking/savings account dipped below $25,000.
I try and keep it holding steady at at least $45,000.

Freshman year of college in Memphis. Parents didn't have a pot to piss in. Got an academic scholarship and was an invited baseball walk on. I lived on oatmeal creme pies for the first three weeks. Then the front desk had coupons to a Kroger for a free loaf of bread, peanut butter, a thing of yogurt, and coke. There were no limits on them so I bought 30 of each. Sold the bread to people on my floor for a buck. Ate the PB out the jar. Sold the drinks too. Lived on the PB and yogurt for a solid 4 weeks- well at least until the yogurt went bad.

You ruined it. Now it doesn't piss me off.

College. Bank account containing about $28, no meal plan, two weeks til payday. Headed to the crappy Wal-Mart off Perkins for a case of Diet Dr. Thunder, store brand pop-tarts, about 15 ramen noodles, some lunchmeat & cheese, and a loaf of bread.
I remember going to wrap my sandwich for lunch and pulling off the last bit of aluminum foil-- not big enough to wrap it. So I used two sheets of loose leaf paper instead.
Vowed then and there to not live paycheck to paycheck ever again if I could help it.
Now that's rough.

Uh, I don't think many stoners just up and choose to be hobos. I went through an existential crisis in Tuscaloosa and just up and left one day. It did me a lot of good and I wouldn't be where I am today without that experience.

Year after college. No job, savings ran out, was crashing on sister's & a friend's couch and had to borrow $1000 to make it before starting first job out of school.

The poorest I've ever been has to be right now. I only have $5 to my name. I'm still in college too.

I was so poor, if it cost money to take a shite, I'd have to throw up.

Speaking of ramen,
I bought some cheese flavored ramen today and it's Delish!
It shouldn't be wasted on the poors

Because this thread isn't about hearing stories of people from different backgrounds, it's a pissing contest to see who went from poorest to richest or some shite. It's weird.
It's like when fan bases argue over whose team is worse and actually get into it. You don't wanna be poor but in this thread, you do.

You'd have to be more specific. I worked for Dr. A. Hammond and some grad assts doing pheromone research on crop pests. Your guy must be retired?
Nothing more fun than driving to Grand Coteau in July to check sweet potato weevil traps in 95 degree temps and humidity.
