BTW, Ken's is over by the airport now, the location by Vandy burned some time ago, and it was absolutely insane. I felt strange driving across the city to eat sushi, but it was about 2:45 and Sushiyobi wasn't open until 3:30.
Best sushi I've had a while. Wife asked what I was eating so I snapped some pics.
I ended up at The Gold Rush after reading for a bit at the Parthenon. Hit that Barnes and Nobles up for a Sartre book.

The list of reasons to drive a vehicle is pretty short:
1. Start at point A
2. Get to point B
3. ?????
4. Profit

Wife and I went to primos in the gulch. Sucked. We went to bar Louie afterward and that was a blast.

quote:Hey I know, they want you to take it in to a dealer for everything.
No offense kork but these assholes frick with the wattage and wiring of oem radios so you can't even swap out a head unit these days without major headaches.

You honestly think you're going to see user friendly software on a car in our lifetime?
I just think that incidents like the VW thing, and also things like hackers controlling vehicles remotely, prove that we can't trust proprietary software to do things right. I think as more things happen, the public will finally catch on and push for more open systems, especially ones that we depend on to keep us alive.

I drove all through there, it is amazingly cool. That pork place with hurt pig logo was slammed.

I find it funny that some of the people complaining about the "driving experience" are the guys that own older trucks and SUVs. If you are upset about the feedback on new sports cars, I'll allow it, but don't decide that you're all bummed out about the experience now when you never had a good one in the first place.
Let's be honest, the feedback of the steering and throttle on your minivan is irrelevant.

Peg leg. Yep it's definitely the trendy BBQ place these days

Well let's be honest, because people don't give a shite about responsive handling is one of the reasons SUVs are so popular.
fricking heartbreaking that even companies like BMW bow to this trend since it's not even a stat that people judge vehicles by. No one gives a shite what it feels like anymore. It's just unbelievable. I'm keeping my hydraulic steering, non-turbo, manual transmission 5 series forever. If it ever gets wrecked I'll be a sobbing baby, it's literally irreplaceable.

What I have found is that with every newer generation vehicle, simple maintenance tasks have been made unnecessarily difficult to perform on your own.
Changing the oil filter in my wife's car forced me to buy a 32mm socket, universal joint, and an 8" drive extender.
Don't get me wrong, I love adding items to my toolbox however I couldn't help but feel the placement and design was meant to shoo customers into dealership maintenance departments.

I'd rather this "fake" code with better mpg than improved emissions while idling

quote:yep ridiculous. Car manufacturers want to sell you movie theater popcorn at the dealer and the more specialized tools and proprietary software they install the happier the dealers are. The goal is to increase the hassle factor to the degree most people throw up their hands and turn over their car maintenance (and wallets) to the dealership.

I am a DIYer by nature and like to know what's going on "under the hood" :rimshot2:
Every red blooded American male should be able to do simple appliance, vehicle, plumbing and electrical repairs. Who wants to always be at the mercy of experts every time a heating element goes out or a light switch needs swapped?

What about driver diagnostics that monitor vitals to make sure drivers don't fall asleep at the wheel etc?
interactive heads up displays (touch) aren't out of the question either.

I'll literally never understand how a vehicle with a higher ride height and more weight is safer than one lower to the ground.

Spend $3-10k on a good diagnostic tool, and everything magically becomes easy

On a car that is known for its "driving experience", I get it.

quote:We don't need a time machine to know the answer. The trend is vehicles last longer and longer. Better manufacturing processes, tighter achievable tolerances, decades of research of various common problems, better alloys, etc. All of these add up to better reliability and longevity.
so tell me doc brown....how will they hold up?
