So if I'm fairly equally bad in all areas of my game: driving, long shot irons, long pitches short pitches/chipping and putting etc....

What's the one type of shot to spend the most time working on to try to improve your overall score???

Chipping and putting.

Turning 3 shots into 2 is the secret of golf.

Chipping and putting is half the game, fastest way to drop shots by far

Putting IMO. If you can't putt It makes golf way harder

eta: Look at Dustin Johnson, Could be great but he struggles with the putter

mid irons

Honestly, for someone who is not very good, I'd say short irons.

Look. If you're bad, you're gonna hit some in the trees. It is what it is.

But, if you can lock down your short irons, then at least when you are near the green, you can put that stupid little ball on the flat top.

Chipping. Most shots aren't going to land on the green if you aren't a great golfer. If you chip inconsistently, it adds up quickly.

Chipping/putting. It's the difference between the guys who's girlfriends carry their bags and the pros.

Wear your pitching wedge out. Practice every shot from 100 yards in and you can shave 5-10 strokes pretty quick

I'd say being consistent in my long irons is most difficult for me. I can have my moments with other shots but still not consistent in much

My answer is probably irrational and not to be listened to, UT I swear when I'm driving bad, my score is much worse than when I'm putting bad. And when I'm driving well,. You score is so much better.

It really depends on many things, but for me, if I'm putting it in the fairway off the tee, my scores are so much better. It could be because that's the club that varies the most, which is certainly true.

if you're bad at driving, it doesn't matter what you do with your other clubs ... you'll always be behind ... if you're bad at everything in golf, it means you don't have a very good swing ... working on your swing with your driver will filter down to your other clubs ... work on making solid contact with your driver and knowing, to some degree, the direction and distance ...

some guy named hogan said the tee shot was the most important shot you hit each hole ... i'd listen to mr. hogan ...

Chipping and putting.

Tough to convince yourself of that because of how great it feels to crush a driver or iron...but learning to chip and putt will save you a lot of strokes.
