Freon levels ?

It's the solenoid.

Yep, just had mine replaced, only cost about 200, and that was with the after hours call out.

Could be the capacitor needs replacing. Easy to tell. Turn power off to the unit. Take the shroud off the back of the unit and inspect the condenser. If it is swollen or seems distorted, that could be the culprit. Before you remove it, discharge it by holding a rubber handled screwdriver across the two leads. They hold power so can arc through you. Once discharged, remove and replace.

check to make sure your drip pan isn't full of water. If it is, unclog it and drain it.

or its the solenoid.

Does the outside unit cut on at all? Compressor or fan?

I don't think so, to me it sounds like the compressor cuts on for about 5 seconds.

If your compressor is cutting on and off that fast you may have a low pressure switch. See if you can look through the top of the outside unit. Look for wires going to a copper line. If you see some going going to a small switch on the copper lines, you're probably low on freon.

you should have the fan running outside also. If it's not running, put a stick in the guard and spin the blades. If they start spinning, it's a capacitor.

Sounds like the Fetzer Valve is sticking...or it could be the solenoid

Have you checked the combustioner? It's usually located near the drip pan in the attic. It acts as a relay to prevent fires.

That's my bet. They are pretty cheap and easily replaced* but you have to know the correct Amperage.

*One wire in/one wire out and a ground wire.

That's called a flame rollout switch. It prevents heating operation. If his compressor is short cycling (on 5 seconds off 30 or so) 90% chance it's freon levels.

ETA: if your compressor is short cycling, cut that sucker OFF.

update:

I checked all the breakers

outside unit does nothing

There is water in the secondary pan, not a ton, but some down in the low corner of the pan.... I moved the water sensor away and tried to cut it on but it did the same thing...the compressor/condenser unit fires up and makes some sounds like it is starting up for about 10 seconds but the fans never cut on and you can here the whole system then "cut off" ....

I also checked the little pop up electronic kill switch that sits in the T of the primary drain pipe connected to main house drains...it was not backed up with water... ?

Check that capacitor. Worse case scenario your compressor is dead/dying. I would put a start kit on it to confirm. I've seen those things save many a compressor.

Capacitors should have a perfectly flat cyndrilical shape. Any bulging at all on the ends means it's garbage.

Burn your house down and collect the insurance money. It's the only logical thing to do.

I'm glad that doesn't apply to humans.

Or does it?
