What would you do? Passenger makes an unusual announcement on an airplane.

I was flying home last night. About 5 minutes after we took off and the plane starts to level off to cruising altitude, the very strange voice comes over the PA and says:

"Hello, everyone. My name is John. And, I owe this plane an apology...."

And then a long pause... I am freaked out. I am wondering if some a-hole is about to try to hijack the plane? Is that the pilot/co-pilot and he is going through a rough time so he is just going to crash the plane into the ground and kill himself and the other 100 or so people on board?? What the hell is going on??

Then come back on and says:

"My name is John, and I owe this plane an apology. I skipped in front of the whole line and someone else in line saw me do it and called me on it. I apologize."

At the time, I thought that he had just jumped up and grabbed the phone and made the announcement, but then it turns out that he asked the flight attendants if he could make an announcement to the plane and they said "sure" and handed him the phone.

Curious to get other opinions. Would you have been pissed off about that? I realize that it was harmless, but for about 20 seconds I was pissing myself scared. I think the FA's should have told him "No, you can't make an announcement" or, if they really wanted to allow it, the FA should have prefaced the announcement and handed it to the passenger.

I'm guessing this was a regional flight? Those flight attendants are entry level. Shouldn't have allowed some passenger to make an announcement.

Pretty dumb. What's the point of apologizing just bc someone called you out for line jumping...plus who cares if he cut the line, everyone is going on the same plane that is leaving at a scheduled time. Being first or last onboard doesn't get you there faster or slower.

hell yea id be pissed...thats fricked up....

he asked to make the announcement? it was definitely intentional to get a reaction from people...we already know "john" will cut in line whoever the frick he wants.

That would have really bothered me too. I don't want anything out of the otdinary to occur once the plane is in the air.

This has got to violate some FAA regulation.

FA should have said "one of our passengers would like to make an apology" then there would be no issue.

Exactly.

And, to vuvuzela... that is exactly how I feel. And I fly a ton.

Grow a pair man, are you pissed because you got scared or because you jumped up and screamed like a little girl?
