So you take all the cops out of bad areas amd focus your resources on good areas, and tourist areas. Only go to the bad areas when you get called out. How would people feel about this?

Also, I know this would never happen. It's a hypothetical for us early birds.

Detroit has vast swaths of unpatrolled urban utopia.

I should have put this in the op, but what I mean is does it help or hurt a major city?

The town I live in is sort of like that.A River runs straight though town. One side of the river is a high crime area.

You could go over there and throw a rock in any direction and hit a crack house,

I really think that as long as the majority of crime stays on that side of the river the police think they're doing their job.

That's totally fricked up because there are a lot of law abiding good people that live there and law enforcement doesn't police it like they should.

Even in bad areas the majority of people are good people looking to get by. Why punish those who likely benefit the most from police presence?

As does NOLA, BR, Gary, Chicago, etc

This is not news.

Baltimore is that way now since the police were charged in the death of a civilian.

The murder rate has skyrocketed.

murders are up 52 percent and non-fatal shootings 80 percent over last year.

So, only the "bad" people rioted in Ferguson and Baltimore?

Were there 300,000 people rioting in Baltimore? I didn't keep up with it too much.

I say let it happen. I know cops can be assholes and abuse their power, but they are needed. I think some of these communities that think cops are just out to get them would change their mind real quick if the cops just said frick it, let's not waste any more resources in that part of town.

Nothing, the people committing the crime don't actually care if police are near or not.

I live in the East and I literally never see police out and about.

It's nice, because I can run red lights with zero fear. Not nice because 14 year Olds shoot each other.

Police recruitment would probably go down. I mean, the average cop signs up for the job precisely so he can go into bad areas and beat the shite out of people. They like doing that sort of stuff.

Sounds great. Tax the poor and low middle class for police, and transfer that revenue to the non-poor.
Right wing socialism.

Seems like a bad idea, especially if there aren't any police over there...
