Having trouble thinking of gifts as the old man won't tell me what he wants. (Understandable).

He's in his 50's.

Any cool ideas?

I'm getting my dad a couple bottles of some nice whiskey and some boots.

buying gifts from my father is the single hardest gift. By like a factor of 50. He has high expectations and won't share shite with you.

I typically buy him a nice bottle of whiskey, but getting it to him in a different state has been a repeated problem.

Not sure what I am going to do, I was thinking about giving it to my sister to deliver to him as she will see hima nd I won't.

I was thinking a coffee table book.

When in doubt, I always get my dad a gift certificate to his favorite market where he usually picks out the a fine choice piece of steak.

As a dad in his 50's, I can tell you that the best gift my kids can give me is some of their time. I don't want or need much. Every Christmas we try to get together and take a trip somewhere instead of exchanging gifts that we really don't want. It removes alot of the pressure of shopping and we always have a great time. It doesn't have to be an expensive trip--just spend some quality time with your parents. Not sure its a "cool" idea but it works for me.

My parents insist we don't get them anything, but I always get something small for each of them. This year I got my dad the Walking With Tigers book.

When I'm that age I would honestly just want my kids to spend time with me.
