When a new teenager goes bad what do you do? Do you send them to military school? No drugs but piss poor attitude and underachieving in school and overall concern about a gradual decline in general but a hell of an athlete.

Start taking shite away from them; start with the cell phone, then the game station & so on. Make them earn the stuff back 1 piece at a time.

better parenting skills helps

See a counselor,

Hold yourself accountable first You are the parent

Your job is to not be popular but prepare your kid for adulthood and becoming a responsible adult

Get to work!

Just about anyone who has raised teenagers hit the wall ever now and then.

Mine is similar, just doesn't give a shite overall. She can't play sports now because of her grades.

Took her to the PJ's, showed her what 10 bucks an hour gets her.

WOW, I'LL START DOING MY HOMEWORK.

Your kid, your problem. You be the drill instructor and light a fire under them. Take away the sports and fun until you see achievement at what is acceptable to you. So what if the kid is a hell of an athlete, if you don't drop the hammer on him because of athletic ability, you're just teaching him to think rules don't apply to him. There will be a better athlete and he will be in for a rude awakening when life bitch slaps him.

Gotta remember their hormones are outta control to stay compassionate. An honor student that talks back some is a blessing.

By great athlete will he get a scholly to college>? If so make appt with the coach- Tell him your kid keeps playing if the two of you come up with a gameplan to correct his attitude-

If the coach is not supportive - move kid to another school where the coach will work with you.

Good coaches work with parents to produce great kids

This is more actual parenting than just taking away privileges (not that doesn't have a place).

If you make the beginning and end of the conversation to be your power over them, they will just yearn for the time you no longer have it.
