What to do if someone writes you a bad check?

We did some work for a homeowner recently & he was very happy with the work upon completion. We had a signed contract the agreed amount was $5,900. I tried cashing the check he wrote his bank said there was no funds in the account to cover it. I called the homeowner to inform him that his check was no good & we needed to be paid. He told me he would handle it & call me in the morning. From that point on I haven't heard from him & he is ignoring my calls, text ect. What should I do from here? I've never been in a situation like this before.

Deer stand ripoffI have a thread on here about a guy ripping me off for some deer stands and the OB board gave me some great advice and actually got my money back. They had me contact the sherif's office and the DA and I had my money back in a few weeks.

You have to deposit the check into your account. It has to bounce and you receive the certified copy of that check to prove the funds not available.
Once you do that, send certified letter for demand of payment.
After you receive the return receipt back, contact the DA's office and turn all documentation over to them.

Go rip your work out of his house. That's a hell of a lot easier and more satisfying than dealing with the court system. Or you could make some signs and flyers and put them up everywhere saying he's a deadbeat. Put that shite in all of the mailboxes in his neighborhood. Don't forget to put some in his mailbox.
Make sure to throw a rooster tail of mud from his front lawn onto his house on the way out

Go to the DA and get them to charge him for writing a bad check and then file a claim against him in small claims court for breach of contract. The court systems hate people like that homeowner and you can frick him up without a lawyer. Let the system do the work for you.

Not good advice. Read your post on my thread about ending up in a cop car

There were a lot of people saying kick his arse on that thread and believe me I wanted too but you can read the whole thing and figure out who have the sound advice that got my money back without me going to jail.
If that wouldn't have worked I probably would have followed hammertime's advice but would have checked them knuckles first

I never claimed to be a lawyer. I'm just an amateur dispute settler. After dealing with small claims court, it's more satisfying to me to frick with someone. That whole process just sucks.
I do love to call people's bluff on whether or not I'll actually pay them a visit. I had to do it in BR to this ghetto arse furniture store that wouldn't stop calling my cell phone because some bitch gave them my number and didn't pay for her shite. As soon as I walked in, the tough guy on the phone ran in the back and I asked his lady boss to deal with me. For some reason, they said they weren't able to take my number out of their computer, so I told them I'd just take all of their computers and that would be that. She deleted my number about a minute after I grabbed one of the monitors
