What makes us like Purple Rain so much?

I remember being at the ND - LSU football game (in 1984?). LSU was starting to become a good football team and there was a packed house in Tiger Stadium. The game was on national tv (which was a fairly big deal back then). Someone in the stands had a "Purple Reign" sign. I seem to remember Purple Rain being played before the game as well, but that might just be a convenient memory. LOL! Anyway, that song always reminds me of that game.
