What LA Should Do Regarding Traffic Citations

Traffic citations should be removed from the criminal court system in Louisiana and moved over to a separate traffic court, state and local.

Keep DWI, careless and wreckless, endangerment type stuff in criminal court/statute.

Stop insurance companies from being able to probe your record and penalize your poor arse for one screw up. After say three violations, next one up goes to criminal court.

System is too bogged down as it is; tickets are no more for safety than the man in the moon but are used to raise revenue to offset the cost of housing prisoners, carpet in the judge's office, and the sheriff or D. A. using them as political dangling carrots.

That's all.

AZ used to have a substitute ticket for speeding called something like "wasting of finite resources". You just pay the penalty and it doesn't go on your insurance.

That's what happens in New Orleans. It just created another clogged inefficient system.

Don't go to cut. Pay it if you were speeding...and you were.

I am way over the hill agewise and have never gotten a speeding ticket, or any other. I just see often enough folks on here complaining about tickets and figured I'd throw it out there.

My solution would be to set up a traffic court and in fact, a civil servant could handle it and not some high priced judge. We pay judges a good salary in this state and they should be concentrating on clearing dockets, not handling parking, speeding tickets.

Set fines uniform across the state. Money goes toward roads and other worthy stuff like the crime lab (which happens now).

A lot of folks don't realize that on a $200 traffic ticket, about 15 different groups get a cut of the pie.
